Women’s Water Polo Falls on the Road to LMU, 10-4

LOS ANGELES – Hana Vilanova posted three goals and Abbey Grosse scored twice and added two assists to help Loyola Marymount cruise to a 10-4 victory over Santa Clara women's water polo on Friday afternoon in a Golden Coast Conference matchup.

Morgan Molloy and Daniela Hernandez each scored a pair of goals for the Lions (13-14, 3-1) who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Maggie Oys had two goals for the Broncos (11-13, 1-3) who were attempting to move into a tie for third in the league standings.

While the LMU defense kept Santa Clara off the scoreboard for the opening 13 minutes, Vilanova and Grosse tallied goals within an 18-second span midway through the opening quarter.

In the middle of the second period, Grosse set up Molloy for a goal and Hernandez fed Vilanova, the GCC's leading scorer, for a marker as LMU's lead grew to 4-0.

Santa Clara got on the board with a power-play goal from Oys 3 minutes before halftime, but LMU scored the next four and the Broncos were unable to hit the back of the net again until early in the fourth when Hannah Buck and Annie Eldredge scored within a 50-second span.

The Lions went 3-for-6 with the extra attacker and Claire Wright saved 11 of Santa Clara's 18 shots.

Lydia Dadd (goalie), Hannah Buck, Annie Eldredge, Maddy Gomes, Mara Dominguez, Maggie Oys and Hailey Eberle started for the Broncos.
• Eldredge had one goal, but her streak of six straight games of tallying at least two was snapped.
• Dadd was credited with eight saves and played all but the final 2 minutes of the game when she was replaced by Alexa Grau.

Santa Clara concludes its stretch of five straight on the road on Friday when it faces Azusa Pacific in another GCC game. Start time is set for noon.
