Women's Water Polo Upsets Redlands at Claremont Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo broke an eight match losing streak with two victories this afternoon at the Claremont Tournament, including an upset win over Division III's top-ranked squad Redlands, by an 11-10 score. The Broncos opened the tournament with a 10-9 win over Bucknell and are now 5-13 on the season.

Six Broncos scored goals in the morning victory, led by senior Kim Yost, with four. Sophomore Elizabeth Glotzbach added two, while senior Liz Schuricht and sophomores Becky Hong, Emily Abbott and Kelley Mays recorded one goal apiece. Senior Sarah Peterson registered eight saves in goal.

Hong and Mays added three goals each in the 11-10 victory over Redlands while fellow sophomore Carly Carpenter posted two. Yost, Glotzbach and Abbott added the final tallies with one goal each. Peterson registered six blocks.

The Broncos remain at the Claremont Tournament and will take on host Claremont tomorrow at 11:45 a.m.
