McGiven Earns Academic Honors

TUSCON, Ariz. - Santa Clara University women's volleyball team member Kim McGiven has been named to the CoSIDA District VIII All-Academic Second Team. The sophomore outside hitter from Encinitas has a 3.873 grade-point average while working toward a degree in Finance. She has started 19 matches in assisting the Broncos to their No. 22 national ranking. She ranks 10th in the WCC with a 3.27 season kills average thus far.

McGiven's first second-team nomination, she is one of only three sophomores to earn this award. She is joined by Nevada's Tristin Adams and Hawaii's Kanoe Kamana'o.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have reached at least sophomore status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have at least a 3.20 GPA. District VIII is composed of Division I schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

With 17 kills in the match against No. 21 San Diego last week, McGiven will continue to lead Santa Clara (7-3, 9-2) this weekend. The Broncos are hosting 12th-ranked Saint Mary's on Friday and San Francisco on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Leavey Center.
