Women’s Tennis Concludes Play at Battle in the Bay Classic

SAN FRANCISCO – Santa Clara women's tennis players Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik concluded its play at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Saturday, losing the semifinal doubles match and the consolation singles matches.  
Playing against the No. 1 seed doubles team Ana Neffa and Constance Branstine of USC, the No. 4 seed Gevargiz and Tabachnik lost, 8-2, in the semifinals.  The Bronco tandem advanced to the semifinals after winning its doubles match on Friday.  
In the consolation singles bracket, both Gevargiz and Tabachnik won its consolation quarterfinal matches before falling in three sets to opponents from Pacific in the semis. Gevargiz lost to Georgia Townsend, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (7) and Tabachnik to Jacquie Tan, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (4).  
The Broncos will next play at the three-day Cal Fall Invitational starting Saturday in Berkeley.
