Bronco Women's Tennis Comes Up Just Short to No. 29 Arizona State, 4-3

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis team came up just short at No. 29 Arizona State by a score of 4-3 on Sunday, Feb. 17 in Tempe, Ariz.

The Arizona State Sun Devils (6-1) swept all of the doubles matches to begin the day. Jessica Agra and partner Katie Le dropped their third match of the regular season to Nicole Smith and Jacqueline Cako, 8-4. The Bronco's duo doubles record tallies 6-3 on the 2013 season.

In addition, duo Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge fell for the second time this weekend in doubles competition. Sun Devil's Joanna Smith and Ebony Panoho defeated the seniors 8-3.

Transitioning to the singles competition, Santa Clara (2-4) was just shy of the four wins it needed to capture the overall match point. Newcomer Delphine Rouvillios, senior Lamble, and No. 25 Le tallied the three single points for the Broncos.

Rouvillios claimed her third win of the dual season with a victory over Ebony Panoho, 6-0, 6-4. Lamble battled through three sets to succeed in the end by a score of 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0.

No. 25 Le handed Jacqueline Cako her first loss of the 2013 season by defeating her in two sets, 7-6(3), 6-2.

Both Alexandra Zaniewski and Chelby Cooke went to the third-set in each of their matches, but could not top the Sun Devils.

The Broncos now look toward their home match against Cal Poly on Sun., Feb. 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the Degerhi Tennis Center.
