Gaels Shut Out Broncos, Match vs. Xavier Moved to Tomorrow

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned their second straight loss during the weekend, falling to Saint Mary's 7-0 today. The Broncos are now 5-3 for the season and 2-2 in West Coast Conference play, while the Gaels continue improve to 2-0 in the WCC and 6-2 overall.

The doubles play, the Gaels defeated the Broncos in the first two matches to earn the doubles point. However, freshmen duo Maggie McGeorge and Kelly Lamble rebounded to defeat Nienke Strijbis and Alita Fisher 8-2 at the No. 3 doubles spot to earn one win for Santa Clara.

Despite the team's loss today, McGeorge and Lamble will improve their doubles record to 6-1, which is the best doubles record for the team so far.

"Saint Mary's played very well today; they have the level of success this year that we're trying to get to in the next few years," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "It was a good learning experience for the team, and it made us realize that we have to get better before we are able to beat the best team in the conference."

Santa Clara has moved Wednesday's match against Xavier to tomorrow, Mar. 1, at Degheri Center to avoid the pending rain. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
