SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball picked up a 4-3 victory over Marist on a rain-shortened Saturday at the ShareSLO Mustang Classic. The Broncos scheduled game with North Dakota was moved to Sunday at 9 am.
Despite falling behind 3-0 after the first inning, Santa Clara (3-15) came back with four unanswered runs, including a three-spot of its own in the third, to come away with the victory.
With the score knotted at 3-all, Eleni Spirakis led off the sixth with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Down 0-2 in the count, Taylor Burns knocked in the game-winning run with a double to right center.
Burns finished the game with a pair of hits and Spirakis added two runs scored and an RBI as well.
Bronco starter Aubree Kim didn't record an out, letting the first three batters of the game reach before being lifted for Micaela Vierra. Vierra (2-6) tossed the final 5 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Marist (5-8) got two RBIs from Ali Milam but no one collected more than one hit.
Kallen Leeseberg (1-3) got the loss in 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. She allowed a run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
Peterson started for the Red Foxes and gave up three runs, but just one earned, in 3 1/3 innings.
The Broncos will play North Dakota at 9 a.m. and Marist at 2 p.m. tomorrow after weather related rescheduling.
