SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing a stretch of five games in four days, Santa Clara softball lost to Fresno State 2-0 Thursday night at home.
Bulldog starter Kamalani Dung (16-9) didn't allow a hit until Geenamarie Bonilla's double to left with one out in the seventh. Santa Clara (10-26) got the tying run to second with two down and nearly got a blooper to left that would have tied the score but it was snagged.
Dung finished with just the one hit allowed and struck out seven while walking four.
Bronco starter Aubree Kim was able to pitch around traffic through the first four innings but Fresno State (24-15) finally broke through in the fifth. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the frame on three hits, a walk, and an error.
Kierra Willis had the lone RBI in the game while Malia Rivers and Haley Fuller both added a pair of hits. Rivers and Miranda Rohleder each scored a run.
Gianetta France drew a pair of walks for the Broncos while Taylor Burns and Kimberly Goulart each had one in addition to Bonilla's double.
Santa Clara opens a three-game set with a doubleheader against LMU Friday at 2 p.m.
