SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a week off due to air quality concerns in the Bay Area, Santa Clara women's soccer returns to the pitch Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Saint Mary's.
The Broncos last action was a pair of wins at Portland 4-1 and at Gonzaga 2-1.
Santa Clara is 32-3-5 all-time against Saint Mary's with the first meeting coming in 1981. Last year the Broncos beat the Gales 2-1 at home. The last meeting in Moraga was a scoreless draw in 2015. Santa Clara has a 16-match unbeaten streak (13-0-3) against Saint Mary's.
Santa Clara (8-6-1, 3-1 WCC) is in a tie for second place in the West Coast Conference and has won five of six. The Broncos have scored 28 goals this season while putting 98 of 195 shots on goal.
Kelsey Turnbow leads the team with 16 points while trying for the team lead with six goals and four assists. Julie Doyle has also scored six goals and added two assists while Maria Sanchez has four assists and has scored three times. Maddy Gonzalez has scored five times and added two assists while five other Broncos have at least a goal each.
Melissa Lowder has started 10 games and made 44 saves for a .710 save percentage. Courtney Ogren has made five starts and has 16 saves for a .667 save percentage. Both keepers have one shutout on the year.
Saint Mary's (6-8, 2-2 WCC) has lost two in a row after falling on the road last week at San Diego and at BYU. The Gaels have been outscored on the year 18-13 and outshot 133-120. They have put 46 shots on goal while allowing 60.
Hannah Diaz leads the team with seven goals and 15 points. Vanessa Gaitan has scored twice and is the only other Gael with multiple goals. Anyssa Dominguez has a team-best two assists.
Sarah Sawatsky and Sonja Rajatalo have split time in net. Sawatsky has 28 saves and a .700 save percentage while Rajatalo has 14 saves and a .700 save percentage. Both have two shutouts.
