LONG BEACH, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf carded its lowest score at The Gold Rush in Tuesday's final round with a 302 to finish in ninth-place with a 913 team total.
"Well, we definitely have some things to work on for our next tournament," head coach Krystal Kelly said after her teams lowest finish in its last nine events.
Senior Kyleigh Moreno carded the lowest round of the tournament for the Broncos with a final-round even-par 72. She was aided by an eagle-3 on the par-5, 475-yard fourth hole that had her at 2-under. Moreno climbed 26 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for 30th-place with teammates Kristin Le, Emily Sumner and four other golfers at 12-over 228 for the tournament.
Sumner and Le both scored a final-round 78. Sumner carded an eagle on the same fourth hole in Monday's first round and the Broncos were the only team in the field to have multiple eagles.
Georgia captured the team title by five shots over BYU with an 883 total. Idaho's Sophie Hausman was the individual medalist navigating the 6,189-yard, par-72 El Dorado Park Golf Course to a 4-under 212.
"They looked better today," Kelly said of her squad. "I saw a bunch of great shots and incredible up and downs. I know what this team is capable of, so we'll continue to work hard and be ready for our next tournament."
Up next for the Broncos is the Fresno State Classic, scheduled to begin on Mar. 5 at the Copper River Country Club.
