Women’s Golf Places Sixth at Hobble Creek; Freman Earns Top-10 Finish

SPRINGVILLE, Utah – In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Annie Freman tied for ninth-place after a final round 74 leading the Santa Clara women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Hobble Creek Invitational on Tuesday.

Freeman, the only freshman on the roster, had the best score of the day for Santa Clara with a 3-over-74, including a stretch of 10 straight pars spanning the ninth thru 18th holes. She ended the tournament at 12-over 275. It was the best individual finish by a Bronco since Balbina Guajardo ended the Lamkin Grip Invitational in a second place tie last October. Freman matched the best round by a Bronco in the tournament with a 2-over 73 in yesterday's second round.

Taylor Camany, who shot a first round 73, followed with rounds of 79 and 78 to finish at 17-over (230) and tied for 18th place. Coupled with her 14th place finish at last season's WCC Championship, the senior from Salinas has two top-20 finishes in her last two events.

The Broncos were consistent in the two-day, three-round event posting scores of 308, 310 and a final round 309 for a tournament total 927 (+75). The Broncos had just nine rounds scoring under 310 last season and sixth place is the best finish in a tournament with 13 or more teams in over a year.

Lea Garner of BYU was an even-par 71 over the final round and took individual honors with a 1-over 214. Seven of the eight players that finished ahead of Freman compete for West Coast Conference schools. San Francisco captured the team title (+28) by six strokes over WCC counterpart Gonzaga (+34).

Kaci McCartan and Meghan Shain both shot a 236 ending the tournament in a 31st place tie with four other golfers.

The Broncos will continue their fall season next week traveling to play in the Boise State Bronco Fall Invitational at the Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho on Sept. 16 and 17.
