FRESNO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team placed second at the Sacramento State Invitational, hosted by the Hornets at Riverside Golf Club in Fresno.
Santa Clara carded a 23-over-par 315 in today's action on the par-73, 5,900-yard course. Combined with yesterday's 313 score, the Broncos finished with a two-day total 628. Fresno State won and host Sacramento State placed third.
Samantha Trask led the Broncos with a 74 in today's round and was the high finisher for the squad overall with a 151. Courtney Dimpel-Composti was two strokes back with a 76-77--153. Candice Palmer (81-81) and Corey Utsurogi (79-83) tied after both carded 162s. Jenny Nelson improved her round by six strokes and finished with a 90-84--174.
"These were definitely not the results we were looking for, although we did move up one spot," head coach Polly Schulze said. "Again, this is the first tournament of the season, and we learned a lot. We'll now come home and practice on what we know we need to get better at and take a stronger game to Boise. We know we need to get four scores in the 70s to compete and we didn't do that this time. We're looking forward to another opportunity in a couple of weeks."
Santa Clara will return to action to participate in the second of four fall tournaments scheduled. The Broncos will travel to Boise, Idaho, Oct. 11-12, for the Boise State Bronco Fall Invitational.
