SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball heads to Southern California to take on Pepperdine Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Broncos picked up their first West Coast Conference win of the season at San Francisco Saturday 71-66 in overtime after trailing by 12 at halftime.
Santa Clara is 40-37 all-time against Pepperdine with the first meeting coming in 1978-79. Last season, both teams won on their home court.
Santa Clara (8-6, 1-2 WCC) is third in the WCC in defense, allowing 60.1 points per game while forcing 16.5 turnovers per game. Offensively, the Broncos score 58.9 ppg on 39.1-percent shooting from the field.
Tia Hay's 14.3 ppg lead the team and she is also tops on the roster with 2.9 assists per game, 2.3 steals per game, and 21 3-pointers made. Ashlyn Herlihy is second in scoring (9.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 pg) while playing a team-high 32.8 minutes per game. Lauren Yearwood is 12th in the country with 2.7 blocks per game and leads Santa Clara with 7.5 rpg while scoring 6.1 ppg. Lindsey VanAllen is scoring 6.7 ppg with Emily Wolph adding 6.5.
Pepperdine (8-6, 2-2 WCC) is scoring 67.4 ppg as a team on 39.2-percent shooting from the field and 34.9-percent from beyond the arc. The Waves are allowing opponents to score 67.1 ppg and shoot 41.3-percent from the floor.
Yasmine Robinson-Bacote leads the conference with 18.5 ppg and leads Pepperdine with 6.6 rpg. Barbara Sitanggan is scoring 9.6 ppg with 5.6 rpg and a team-leading 4.2 apg and 2.2 spg. Rose Pflug's 16 3-pointers are the most on the team with Robinson-Bacote, Malia Bambrick, and Deezha Battle all knocking down 14.
