SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the first time this season, Santa Clara women's basketball heads out on the road when the Broncos face USC Saturday at 2 p.m.
Santa Clara topped both Nevada and San Diego State earlier in the week to get off to the best start for the program in 19 years.
Santa Clara is 0-3 all-time against USC with the first meeting coming in 1978-79. Last year the Trojans picked up a win in Leavey Center.
Santa Clara (3-0) is averaging 71.3 points per game this season while shooting 48-percent from the field. The Broncos are allowing just 43.0 ppg and are holding opponents to a 26-percent mark from the floor.
Tia Hay leads the team with 17.7 ppg while shooting 49-percent from the field. She is also adding 5.3 rebounds per game and 2.3 steals per game. Lauren Yearwood is averaging a team-high 7.7 rpg and 4.7 blocks per game while scoring 7.0 ppg. Ashlyn Herlihy scores 7.7 ppg and is tied for the team lead with 3.7 apg while adding 5.7 rpg. Emily Wolph also has 3.7 apg and is scoring 8.0 ppg with a. team-high six 3-pointers.
USC (2-0) has won both its games by at least 18 points, outscoring opponents by an average of 79.5-52.5. The Trojans are shooting 45-percent from the floor and 38-percent from beyond the arc.
Aliyah Mazyck leads the team in scoring with 19 points, but has played in just one of the team's two games. Minyon Moore is scoring 18.5 ppg with a team-leading 9.5 rpg and is shooting 70-percent from the floor. She also leads USC with 7.0 apg. Mariya Moore scores 12.0 ppg and grabs 5.5 rpg while leading the team with five 3-pointers.
