VALMADRERA, Italy - The Santa Clara University women's basketball team defeated Italian team Valmadrera 112-41 in its first game of the Broncos' summer European tour.

Five players reached double-digit figures, led by senior Julie Butler with 18. Frontcourt teammate Tammy Annas posted 17 points while Butler's sister, sophomore Kim, added 16. Sophomore Megan Nelson registered 12 points, while junior Whitney Sutak scored 10 in her first outing as a Bronco after transferring from Utah last season.

"There was no doubt the team was very tired from traveling all day yesterday," first year head coach Michelle Bento said. "But they came out and did a good job. It was our first test against another team's defense and we executed well. I was very proud at the way our team found some energy and fought through the game."

To round out the Bronco scoring, sophomore Kayla Huss added nine points, while seniors Kendra Rhea and Courtney Cushing posted eight each. Senior Jennifer Bradley and sophomore Quinn Thomas added five each and junior Jennie Rondel scored four points.

Valmadrera is a city north of Milan in Northern Italy. The team will take the next couple of day off before playing three straight contests.
