SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the final tune up before entering the heart of West Coast Conference schedule, Santa Clara men's tennis hosts Fresno State on Saturday and Marquette on Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center. First serve for both matches are at 10 a.m.
Santa Clara (7-3) and Fresno State (9-7) play for the sixth consecutive season with the Bulldogs snapping the Broncos four match series win streak last season in Fresno, 6-1.
"Fresno State is a really good team. They beat us last season and we beat them in a tightly contested match, 4-3, two years ago so it's a good rivalry," said third-year Bronco head coach Niall Angus. "They are a deep team and are 3-0 against WCC teams this season. It will be a great test for us.
"It was nice to get a match in against Army, to where we can get back onto the court and get things moving again," said Angus whose team beat Army, 7-0 on Monday playing for the first time since Feb. 23 due to the numerous rain postponements.
Fresno State has beaten a trio of WCC teams this season including Pepperdine, LMU and Pacific, all on the road. The Bulldogs will face another WCC school, San Francisco on Friday before playing the Broncos as they enter the USF match on a four-match winning streak.
Sunday's opponent, Marquette (7-5) has won two in a row but are 2-5 away from home.
"Marquette is a solid team and a good opportunity to get another match in before we enter the heart of our conference schedule. This weekend is an important one not just to play two good teams but also our final test before we get into WCC play," Angus said.
All home matches at Degheri Tennis Center will be live streamed. Viewers can go to this link (https://www.santaclarabroncos.com/livetennis) and follow the live action on each of the six courts.
