Men’s Tennis Continues Strong Play at Aggie Invitational on Saturday

DAVIS, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis continued its strong showing at day two of the Aggie Invitational on Saturday with a pair of Broncos advancing to the singles semifinals round and a doubles team making the finals.  
Seniors Connor Garnett and Kamran Khan advanced to the semifinals of the A and B Draws, respectively, while Khan teamed up with freshman Santiago Hinojosa to advance to the finals of the of the doubles B Draw.  
Garnett advanced to the A Draw semi finals by defeating fellow Bronco Jesus Tapiador Barajas in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.  Garnett will next face Portland's Carlos Donat with an opportunity to play for the championship.  
Along with Garnett and Tapiador Barajas, senior Andrew Gu played his way into the A Draw quarterfinals but lost to Stanford's Timothy Sah, 6-4, 6-2.  
In the singles B Draw, Khan took care of Sacramento State's Johnannes Gjerdaker 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the semis where he will play Louis Chabut of Sacramento State.  
Both semifinal matches will be played on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.  
Freshman Santiago Hinojosa also looked to punch his ticket to the semis of the singles B Draw, however, he fell to Abhishek Bastola of Saint Mary's 6-0, 7-6(5).  
The newcomer from Mexico City did punch a ticket to the finals of the doubles B Draw while paired up with Khan.  The righty-lefty doubles team took care of Alex Scemanenco and Daniel Landa of UC Davis, 8-5, in the quarterfinal round before beating Nevada's Benjamin Campi and Dylan Levitt, 8-2, in the semifinals.  The Bronco duo will play Andew Newell and Nicklas Oberg of Portland for the championship on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. PT.  
Garnett and Tapiador Barajas lost in the quarterfinals of the doubles A Draw to Cal's Dominic Barretto and Mert Zincirli, 8-5.
Santa Clara also picked up three wins in the consolation bracket with freshman Arthur Neuhaus winning two matches and Robert Seby getting one.  
The final day of the Aggie Invitational starts at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Complex.
