SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 54 Santa Clara men's tennis team opened up the 2011 dual season with comfortable wins over Sonoma State and UC Davis. As last season, the Broncos hosted the opening day double-header and swept the competition winning 4-0 and 7-0.
In the morning's first match versus Division II No.34 Sonoma State, Kyle Dandan and Nicolas Vinel and John Lamble and Maxime Armengaud grabbed doubles wins to give the Broncos an edge going into singles play. Armengaud, Lamble, and Muchynski went on to dominate Taylor Bianco, Drexler Dy, and Bryce Keefer, respectively, to secure a 4-0 victory over the Sea Wolves.
In the day's second contest versus UC Davis, Santa Clara carried over their momentum from the first match to score 7-0 win. Dandan and Vinel and Lamble and Armengaud continued their doubles success, while Tom Pham and Muchynski won their first doubles match of the season versus Chris Aria and Kyle Miller, 8-2. On the singles side of play, Dandan, Lamble, Vinel, Pham and Muchynski swept their opponents without losing single game, giving Santa Clara their 7-0 win of the day.
The Broncos are back in action on Jan. 26 at the Degheri Tennis Center when they play against UC Santa Cruz to take on the Banana Slugs at 3 p.m.
