SCU Men's Soccer Hosts LMU And San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's soccer team returns home to host two opponents in West Coast Conference action this weekend at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Broncos battle the Lions of Loyola Marymount on Friday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m., and then face off against the Toreros of San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. Both games are part of doubleheaders with the women's soccer team.

Last Time Out
The Broncos battled through a 1-1 overtime tie with the Gaels of Saint Mary's last weekend. Scoring for Santa Clara was sophomore Jalil Anibaba. It was his first goal of the season and second in his career.

Bronco Watch
Freshman Connor Mitchell tied junior Jeff Cosgriff for first place two weeks ago. Both players have six points (2G, 2A). Senior Brian Martin and Wantulok are tied for second on the squad with four points (2G). In goal, Kevin Klasila has a 1.36 goals-against average and has collected 19 saves.

Assists Leaders
Mitchell joined the Broncos assists leaders last week. He, along with Cosgriff and freshman Brandon Zimmerman have been integral in setting up several of the Broncos goals this season. Mitchell had a hand in each of Wantulok's goals last weekend. Cosgriff help put together Mykell Bates' game-winning goal against UW-Milwaukee and on Mitchell's game-tying goal against then-No. 12 Cal. Zimmerman teamed with Martin for a goal against UIC and then helped out fellow freshman Mitchell against Stanford.

In the WCC
This week Santa Clara is fourth in assists in overall games and fourth in saves in WCC games only. Individually in overall games, Mitchell checks in a No. 4 in points per game, while Klasila moves up to No. 6 in saves. In WCC games only, Kellen Wantulok ranks third in points and goals, while Mitchell is tied for first in assists. Klasila is fourth in saves and fifth in goals-against average.

Scouting Loyola Marymount
The Lions enter the weekend with a 4-3-4 overall record and a 2-1-0 WCC mark. LMU is 0-2-1 on the road this season, but is currently riding a two-game win streak into Friday night's contest. Players to watch: Artur Jozkowicz (3G), Brad Stisser (1G, 2A), Steffen Canty (1G, 2A), Patrick Sampson (0.72 GAA, 39 Saves).

Nov. 4, 2007 - Santa Clara defeated LMU 3-1 at home. Scott Sweeney scored the game-winning goal.

All-Time vs. Loyola Marymount
Friday's contest marks the 31st meeting of the two programs in a series that Santa Clara leads 22-7-1.

Scouting San Diego
The Toreros enter the weekend with an undefeated conference record of 3-0-0 and an overall mark of 3-5-3. Players to watch: Andrew Feld (3A, 2A), JT Howlan (3G, 1A), Corey Norris (2A), Kelin Briones (0.97 GAA, 30 Saves).

Nov. 2, 2007 - Santa Clara defeated San Diego 2-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Martin scored the game-winning goal for the Broncos.

Sunday's contest marks the 35th meeting of the two programs in a series that Santa Clara leads 24-9-1.

On Deck
Santa Clara remains on the Mission Campus to host San Francisco on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. The Broncos and Dons then battle once again on Sunday, Oct. 26 in San Francisco at 7 p.m.
