Men’s Soccer Comes Back To Draw Sacramento State In Exhibition Match
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer came back from a two-goal deficit to draw Sacramento State, 2-2, in an exhibition match on Wednesday night at Stevens Stadium.  The Broncos scraped to a draw on a pair of goals in the second half including the equalizer by newcomer Alan Jonathan Camacho Soto in the 76th minute in a match mired with fouls.
In a tale of two halves, the Broncos conceded two goals to the Hornets within six minutes of the opening whistle while getting outshot 9-1 and committing 14 fouls to just one for Sacramento State in the first half.
Santa Clara righted itself in the second half by better controlling its intensity.  Sophomore Javier Ruiz Duran got the Broncos on board in the 48th minute to cut the deficit to one goal, finding the back on the net with his left foot off a rebound in front of the goal.
"We need Javi to be goal dangerous," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "When the ball came out, he composed himself and followed the play.  It's very easy to turn off and lose concentration and then you're not in touch with the moment that you can pick up the next ball and score it."
In the 76th minute, Camacho Soto, a transfer from Temple, headed in a cross from Miles Robinson to rattle in the game-tying goal as it ricocheted off both posts.
"Alan has a knack for putting his head on the ball.  He did it in our intra squad match earlier in the week.  We are hopeful that he will be one of those players that just has that knack for scoring goals," said Rast.
A total of 34 fouls were committed by the two teams along with 10 cards that were issued.
"Between now and Sunday, we need to review what we did so the team recognizes that we didn't move the ball nearly fast enough and also to control our intensity," said Rast whose team will play San José State at home in the exhibition finale.
Sunday's match will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. PT.
