Santa Clara Wins Final Regular-Season Non-Conference Match of the Season

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's soccer team ended its regular-season non-conference schedule with a convincing 6-1 win over the College of Notre Dame Thursday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Juniors Tony Cota (Modesto, Calif.) and Keith Burden (Niwot, Colo) scored two goals each, while Cota added an assist to lead the Broncos. Santa Clara improved to 7-6-0 on the season, while the College of Notre Dame fell to 13-5-0.

Santa Clara opened the game at the 16:27 mark of the contest when Burden scored in his second-straight game. He converted a header from a Joe Ascolese assist to give SCU a 1-0 lead. Burden later added a low shot into the middle of the goal off a Brett Davis (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) assist to provide the final margin of victory.

Santa Clara outshot the College of Notre Dame by a 19-4 margin in the game, including a 17-1 margin late in the game. A total of 37 players saw action in the match, including 18 for the Broncos.

Santa Clara's next scheduled match is Saturday, October 27 at the University of San Diego. The Broncos return home for their final three games of the season beginning Nov. 2 against Saint Mary's.
