Fresno, Calif. - After the first two rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Classic, Santa Clara's men's golf team currently sits in 15th place in the field of 20. Scott Travers leads the way for the Broncos with rounds of 70 and 71 to go three-under after two rounds.
Travers had a slow start to his day with a bogey on his second hole, but righted the ship immediately with a birdie on the next, going three-under in his next 12 holes before surrendering another bogey to drop him to a two-under 70 in the first round. His second round started similarly, with a bogey, but a barrage of birdies had him at five-under before a triple on the sixth hole dropped him to -2. Travers managed one more birdie in his round to bring him to three-under for the day.
Jonathan Keane had a great first round, shooting even par on his first nine and birdying two of the last four holes of his back nine to finish at two-under. After dropping to one-over after the first nine holes of his second round, Keane rallied with a birdie on his final hole of the day to bring him back up to even par with a second round 74.
Jimmy Cacho stumbled out of the gate in his first round, shooting three straight bogeys to start his day and was four-over going into his last four holes. But Cacho battled back, birdying three of his last four to bring his first round score to a one-over 73. Cacho went back on fourth on his second round before settling on a score of 75 and at four-over for the tournament.
In fourth place on the Broncos is Blair Myers who shot dual 76's to end the day at eight-over. Rounding out the team for Santa Clara was Kellen Moss, who scored for the team in the first round with a 74, but managed an 80 in the second to end his day at ten-over.
The third and final round tomorrow will conclude the Fresno State Lexus Challenge for Santa Clara.
