Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – Kenny DeCelle
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball announced the third member of the 2020 recruiting class, Kenny DeCelle from Vacaville High in Vacaville, California.  The athletic outfielder is a three-time captain/co-captain on the basketball team who helped lead the Bulldogs baseball squad to their best record (31-2) in program history last season.
"I chose Santa Clara to continue my academic and baseball career for two reasons," said DeCelle.  "First, the coaching staff.  During my visit to SCU, I had the opportunity to get to know the coaching staff, tour the beautiful campus and learn about the university and all that it stands for.
"It wasn't until I experienced Coach Rusty Filter's leadership and vision that I realized that Santa Clara and its baseball program was the fit for me.   Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jon Karcich is not only an SCU graduate but also played for the baseball program and has a vested interest and passion for the university that is felt in the relationships and communications he develops with players and potential prospects.  The coaches made me feel like I was part of the Bronco family.  I know they will continue to serve as mentors as I continue my academic and athletic journey."
The 6-foot-2 DeCelle hails from a dual military family where his mother, Marlena, is an active duty Army Colonel and his father, Ken, is an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel.
"My parents raised my siblings and I on the core values of: God, loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service to others, honor, integrity and personal courage," DeCelle said.  "As the eldest of four children, it is my duty to know the role that I play in our family dynamic.  I have the responsibility to step in and serve as a third parent and mentor my younger siblings whenever one of my parents is called away on military duty.  Santa Clara University's Jesuit values and promise to educate citizens and leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion, line hand in hand with what I stand for and how I choose to live my life.  I look forward to continuing my personal growth in a faith based environment under coaches, teachers and staff that internalize and stand for the same values that are important to me."
During his junior season, the right-handed batting and throwing DeCelle had a .388/.433/.529 slash line with 10 steals in 31 games and was named Monticello Empire League Honorable Mention.
"The Vacaville High baseball program has produced many great athletes, and Kenny is no exception.  He is an athletic and fast twitched outfielder who can play all three positions. He brings a unique ability to steal bases and put pressure on the defense. He is a product of Admirals baseball and Norcal baseball programs, so we know he plays the game the right way.  The Bronco staff is excited to welcome Kenny and his family," Broncos head coach Rusty Filter said.
Our next future Bronco, Michael Diaz, will be announced the week of Dec. 9.
