SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the ninth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2018-19 season, Ethan Heinrich. The right-handed pitcher currently attends College of San Mateo in San Mateo, California.
"I chose Santa Clara University for a variety of reasons. The first reason being it is such a prestigious university. The Leavey School of Business is an amazing program and I plan to study business. Its location in the middle of Silicon Valley appeals to me also. On the baseball side, the coaching staff and the top-notch facilities were a big draw. I am very excited to play for the brand new coaching staff as I feel they are going to help me take my game to the next level. I can't wait to get on campus to take advantage of the opportunities," said Heinrich.
This past spring, Heinrich started in three of the four games he pitched for the College of San Mateo. The six-foot-four pitcher struck out 22 hitters in 22.2 innings while allowing just four walks.
"Ethan is exactly what everyone in college baseball is looking for. He is a long levered, big, strong-bodied young man. Ethan's got an easy, smooth arm action with good velocity and heavy sink to his ball. Ethan is a great competitor and pounds the strike zone. With everything we've seen out of him, he should step in here and compete for a weekend starting rotation spot," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.
Our next future Bronco, Keegan McCarville, will be announced later in the week.
