SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the fourth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2018-19 season, Locke Bernhardt. The right-handed pitcher currently attends Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona, along with his twin brother and Bronco signee, Holden Bernhardt.
"I chose Santa Clara because I really like the coaching staff and the experience that they have. I'm very excited to be able to pitch underneath coach Filter and coach Gonzalez. I think that Santa Clara has the opportunity to be very good in the next couple of years. I also like the Bay Area because it is similar to where I grew up in Colorado. Santa Clara's campus is another reason I chose the Broncos. Its a beautiful campus and has everything I would need to be successful. I'm very excited to be a Bronco," said Bernhardt.
The six-footer made 15 of his 16 appearances out of the bullpen. Bernhardt picked up six wins, allowing just 12 hits in 23.2 innings with 20 strikeouts.
"I see Locke pitching a ton for us next year and see him filling many roles on our pitching staff. I'm really excited about him coming in and helping the program move forward. Locke, like his brother, throws a lot strikes and both are very competitive," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.
Bernhardt played prep baseball at Mountain View High School in Loveland, Colorado, where he helped lead the Mountain Lions to a fifth place finish in the state playoffs in 2016. During his senior season, the two-time letter winner posted a 5-1 record with a 1.11 ERA, striking out 52 batters in 44 innings.
Our next future Bronco, Dawson Brigman, will be announced later in the week.
