SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the sixth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2017-18 season, Cade Negley. The right-handed pitcher currently attends Butler High School in Butler, Pa.
"I chose Santa Clara because of the high academics offered and the great baseball coaching staff," Negley said. "The campus is beautiful and felt like a home away from home to me."
Negley, at 6-1, 195 pounds, has earned first-team all-section honors as a pitcher and second-team all-section honors as a designated hitter. Negley also earned 2016 Pitcher of the Year accolades, posting a 1.3 earned run average (ERA), striking out 45 batters in 40 innings. Negley had a .357 batting average during his junior year and a .321 average for his sophomore season to go along with a 1.7 ERA.
"Cade is the kind of player who's talent is his ability to compete at all times," associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "The first time I saw Cade play, I knew there was something special about him on the mound because of the way he came right after hitters and provided energy to his team."
Negley also won with his club team, taking the title at the Cooperstown Dreams Park in 2011, going 11-0 with his Beaver Valley Red squad.
"Cade's stuff is plenty good to pitch a lot for us as soon as he gets here," Ribas said. "But, what is going to set him apart is his baseball IQ, his ability to work, and his competitive drive. The sky is the limit for Cade in this program."
Negley is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and earned an academic award at his school for earning straight As.
"On top of his athletic ability, Cade is an outstanding student, and comes from a family with values that match those of Bronco Baseball," Ribas said. "We couldn't be happier to have Cade join the program!"
Our next future Bronco, Mark Ready, will be announced on Jan. 2.
