SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Three groups of Bronco cross country runners are set to race in two different cities when the team competes for the third time this season on Sat., Sept. 27. The first men's group travels to the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course for the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. The women's team will join the second group of men's runners close to home at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
"Both teams have made significant improvements since the WCC Preview Meet and they are looking forward to competing this weekend," head coach Felipe Montoro said.
Three teams from last year's NCAA Championship field of 31 are scheduled to compete at the Griak Invitational. Texas (14th, 2013 NCAA Championship), North Carolina (17th) and Colorado State (26th) join the field of 31 Saturday in Minnesota.
"The men running in Minnesota are fit, healthy and excited to run with some nationally competitive programs," Montoro said. "The Roy Griak Invitational is a great showcase for the sport of cross country and we are looking forward to being a part of it."
"Stanford represents an opportunity for our women's team to gain experience racing in a large and competitive field," Montoro said. "Their main focus will be on lowering the team's spread from one to five."
"There is a nice blend of newcomers and veterans competing for the men at Stanford," Montoro said. "I am excited to see how that group mixes it up in a very quality field."
