Santa Clara Cheer Squad Searching For New Head Coach

June 23, 2006

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Santa Clara University Cheer Squad is seeking a head coach to lead the team for the 2006-07 athletic seasons. Along with the Ruff Riders and Pep Band, the Cheer Squad helps create the excellent atmosphere that has characterized Santa Clara Bronco athletic events in recent years. The squad focuses mainly on the men's and women's basketball games as the Broncos take on some of the top teams in the country at the Leavey Center.

"The Cheer Squad is an integral part of our in-game entertainment," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Dan Coonan. "Our men's and women's basketball games are known to have some the best atmospheres in the WCC and the Cheer Squad is a major part of that. They work very well with our Pep Band and the Ruff Riders. Having a strong coach next year will help the squad continue to build Bronco Spirit at our athletic events."

The 2006-07 Cheer Squad will be led by senior captains Medley Crank and Kate Katri, who are both long-time veterans of the team. Crank has been a part of the squad since her freshman year, while Katri joined as a sophomore after arriving that year as a transfer.

"I really enjoy being a SCU cheerleader," said Crank. "Not only to you get to raise the spirit of the whole school but you also get to experience the excitement of every Bronco victory first hand."
