Annual Dodge Ackerman Memorial Bout This Weekend

Feb. 22, 2006

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The annual Dodge Ackerman Memorial Bout will be held in the Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center Saturday, February 25th at 2 p.m.

This annual event is in memory of SCU boxer Dodge Ackerman who passed away after battling cancer. Until passing away on June 21, 2003 Ackerman was a member of the Santa Clara University Boxing Club from 1999 - 2002.

He was a national champion boxer after his first season with the Broncos as a freshman. However, he suffered a broken wrist as a sophomore and, although qualified, was unable to box at the national championships.

In 2001 no one would agree to fight him and in 2002 he was diagnosed with cancer right before attending regional competition.

The team will be honoring Ackerman this year with this competition as they are growing strong in preparations for another successful season. For more information about this event please email or call the Club Sports Office at 408-551-7182.
