Santa Clara Scholar-Athlete of the Week (October 15-21)

Becky Potter & Michael Duong were named Santa Clara's Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Becky Potter

The sophomore from Clovis, Calif. has made a tremendous impact in the little time she has been at Santa Clara. Potter racked up 309 kills and 177 digs as a freshman. This year she is currently second on the team in kills (203) and kills per game (3.56). She is also third on the team in digs (167) and digs per game (2.93). She currently has a 3.35 GPA in Mathematics and was named the WCC Freshman of the Year in 2000. She was also just named the WCC Athlete of the Week for the week of October 7-14. At Buchanan High School she helped her team accumulate a 111-21 record during her four years as a starter. She was listed as a member of the Who's Who Among American High School Students and was able to attend the National Youth Leadership forum on medicine.

Michael Duong

The sophomore from Sunnyvale, Calif. has impressed many both on the court and off. As a freshman last year he accumulated a 19-13 overall singles record, including a 7-3 record at the No. 2 spot on the ladder. This year Duong continues to play well including recently at the Classic where he advances to the quarterfinals of his singles bracket and to the semifinals of his doubles bracket. During his senior year at Los Altos High School he earned the No. 13 ranking in the Northern California Men's Open and was ranked eighth in 18s in Northern California. He currently maintains an amazing 3.86 GPA in Operations Management and Information Systems in the College of Business.
