Women's Water Polo Falls to Loyola Marymount in WWPA Semifinals

DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team fell to Loyola Marymount by a 9-3 margin in the Western Water Polo Association Championship semifinals in Davis, Calif. on Saturday. With the loss, SCU falls to 18-16 on the season as it heads into its final day of competition on Sunday.

Loyola Marymount jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with four unanswered scores in the first period. The Lions continued their offensive surge with two more goals in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, SCU found its offense scoring three goals in the third quarter. However, LMU outscored the Broncos 2-0 in the final period to claim the win.

Senior co-captain Catherine Flynn led SCU with two goals, while Lindsey Bacolini added the final Bronco score.

In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Barnes played the whole match and recorded five saves.

The Broncos will conclude their season on Sunday in the final day of the tournament at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, Calif.
