Broncos Fall 7-5 To Tritons, Finish 4th In WWPA

April 29, 2007

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team concluded their 2007 season Sunday with a tough loss to rival UC San Diego in the third place match at the WWPA Championships. After defeating San Diego twice earlier this season, the Tritons got the 7-5 victory to take third place, while the Broncos finished fourth.

After grabbing a quick 1-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a goal by Amy Lamb, UC San Diego responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead before twin sister Allie Lamb tied the game 2-2 with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter.

Senior Andrea Evans gave the Broncos a 3-2 lead with 5:54 left in the second quarter, but the Tritons responded with three unanswered goals to give UC San Diego a 5-3 lead before halftime.

With just under two minutes before the half, the Broncos narrowed the lead to 5-4 on a goal by Emily Bonk.

After giving up two more goals in the third quarter, the Broncos received a goal from Christie Miller, but the Tritons maintained their two goal lead the rest of the way as both teams went scoreless in the fourth.

With the loss, the Broncos finish in fourth place in the WWPA following a 22-14 season in which they went 16-5 against WWPA opponents.
