TEMPE, Ariz. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team fell to 19th-ranked Arizona State 5-2 this afternoon at the Sun Devil Invite, hosted by the Sun Devils at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Broncos closed out the event with an 8-3 loss to Cal Baptist.

Santa Clara's record moves to 15-19, while ASU improves to 20-17 and Cal Baptist is now 18-14.

Sophomore Katy Shumm scored both goals for the Broncos, finding the back of the cage in the third and fourth quarters. Her first tally was a soft lob over the keeper on a crossing pass while her second was on a man-up advantage, banking her shot off the right post.

Anne Ginotti tallied seven blocks for the Broncos while guarding the net.

"We played well and I think we got the shots we were looking for, we just couldn't convert," SCU head coach Keith Wilbur said.

Against the Lancers, Alanna Simpkins, Becky Hong and Elizabeth Glotzbach recorded goals for SCU. Ginotti added five saves.

Santa Clara will participate in the WWWPA Championships next weekend, Friday through Sunday. CS Bakersfield is the tournament host. Game times and opponents will be announced early in the week.
