Water Polo Closes Regular Season with Win

April 17, 2004

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team earned a 9-3 victory over Cal State Hayward this afternoon in Hayward. It marked the Broncos third win over the Pioneers this season, as Santa Clara improves to 18-15 on the season. CSH falls to 14-18.

Catherine Flynn led the Broncos with three goals, while Bryn Asher notched two, while also posting five steals. Amanda Ginn, Alanna Simpkins, Kathleen Hamm and Katie Radvanyi added one tally each. Kellie Dunn added four steals. The Bronco defense was led by Anne Ginotti in the cage, where she recorded 13 blocks, one steal and one assist.

"It was a game where we had to build up the lead slowly each quarter," head coach Keith Wilbur said post-match. "I think the team is working on all cylinders and we're in a good position to head into the conference championships."

Santa Clara will return home tomorrow to host its annual alumni contest, which will be at noon at the Leavey Pool. The Broncos conclude their season April 23-25 at the WWWPA Championships in Los Angeles. Game times and opponents will be announced early next week.
