April 3, 2004

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team scored seven goals in the second quarter en route to a 10-2 victory over Sonoma State this afternoon in Rohnert Park. Today's victory marks the third for the Broncos over the Seawolves this season. The Broncos' record evens to 15-15, while SSU falls to 7-14.

Catherine Flynn scored all four of her goals in the second quarter. Kathleen Hamm added two on the day, while one each was tallied by Alanna Simpkins, Bryn Asher, Katie Radvanyi and Danielle Mansfield. Kristen Barnes had a strong outing guarding the cage, recording 13 blocks and one assist. Amanda Ginn added two assists and three steals for the Broncos.

The teams played an even first quarter, with SCU ahead 1-0. The seven unanswered goals in the second frame gave the visitors a comfortable 8-0 halftime advantage. Two early third quarter goals made it a 10-0 lead before Sonoma State responded with scores from Tara Musco and Amber McQugh.

The Broncos return home to host UC Santa Cruz tomorrow at 1 p.m. Admission to the Leavey Pool is free.
