Broncos Defeat CS San Bernardino 13-4

March 31, 2007

DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team earned their second victory of the afternoon with a 13-4 win over Cal State San Bernardino. Andrea Evans had a hat-trick, increasing her goals total to 15 in the last seven games, and Meg Zimmerman and Katie Radvanyi each added a pair, as the Broncos increased their record to 16-10, 11-2 in the WWPA.

The Broncos didn't have their best start, but put three goals in the board in the first quarter, two by Evans, and Santa Clara took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

From there Santa Clara went to work. Five unanswered second-quarter goals, by Jenny Knutson, Zimmerman, Radvanyi, Evans and Christie Miller gave the Broncos an 8-1 lead going into halftime.

And it didn't stop there. In the third quarter, the Broncos offensive dominance continued, with four more unanswered goals by Kellie Dunn, Zimmerman, Radvanyi and Brianna Anderson.

Until San Bernardino's goal two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, the Broncos had strung together a total of 11 unanswered goals. Santa Clara would give up another before Mele Rehder increased the lead to 13-3. San Bernardino would get one final goal to account for the final 14-3 margin. Randahl Capurro had a strong effort in the cage, making 12 saves.

The Broncos (16-10, 11-2) will continue play at the Aggie Shootout Sunday with matches against Cal State Bakersfield and Colorado State.
