No. 20 Broncos Get Past Bears in 5-2 Win

March 29, 2006

Santa Clara, Calif. - The No. 20 Santa Clara women's water polo team picked up a 5-2 victory over visiting Brown this afternoon at the Leavey Center Pool, led by Lindsay Bacolini's three goals. In a game where both squads played incredibly physical defense, it was the offensive prowess of Bacolini that made the difference in the low-scoring affair.

Santa Clara improves to 14-6 on the year and returns to action tomorrow afternoon with an away game against Sonoma State. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

"It was a tough match this afternoon. It was a physical game that favored defense and as a result, it was a low-scoring game, which made every goal count," stated Wilbur. "Lindsay Bacolini really stepped up for us and her goals were really momentum building for us."

In addition to Bacolini's hat trick, Andrea Evans and Amy Lamb found the back of the net once to complete the Broncos' scoring. Along with her offensive abilities, Bacolini played great defense for SCU, posting two steals in the win. In the cage for Santa Clara, Kristin Barnes played excellent defense, swatting away seven shots in the winning cause.
