Broncos Drop 18-2 Decision To #1 Stanford

March 26, 2007

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team began the first of two games at Stanford University against Stanford, the nations top team. Unfortuantely, the Broncos efforts weren't enough, as they were defeated 18-2 at the Avery Aquatics Center.

Santa Clara found themselves in a hole early as Stanford's offense posted six goals in each of the first two quarters to take a 12-1 lead at halftime before snagging six more in the second half.

Freshman Meg Zimmerman had a very strong performance for the Broncos, scoring one goal and drawing a 5m penalty which led to the other, scored by senior Kellie Dunn. Kristen Barnes manned the cage for Santa Clara and had five blocks.

"We didn't play badly out there but it was a tough game," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "When you are playing the number one team in the country, they'll do that to you."

Next up the Broncos will face the University of Maryland at 3:00 p.m.
