Women's Water Polo Bests Cal State Monterey Bay, 15-4

March 19, 2005

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team returned to action after a break for final exams with a 15-4 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in Monterey, Calif. on Saturday morning. With the win, the Broncos improve to 11-8 on the season.

"This was a good game for us," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "I am very impressed with how far Cal State Monterey Bay has come in only its first season. Their coaches are doing a great job with the team."

11 different Broncos scored in the match as Emily Bonk, Andrea Evans, Bryn Asher, and Mele Rehder each found the back of the net twice in the game. Erin Scollin, Catherine Flynn, Elizabeth Perry, Danielle Mansfield, Kaylie Pezzuto, Katie Radvanyi and Kendra Betke all scored once in Monterey.

In the cage, Kristin Barnes started the match and played the first half, posting four blocks. A pair of freshmen manned the net in the second half. In the third quarter, Randahl Capurro recorded three saves, while Christina Malley tallied two in the final period.

On the defensive end, Lindsey Bacolini, Rehder and Perry all combined to shut down the Otter's two-meter game. Flynn also drew three kick-outs in the contest.

The Broncos will return home next week when they host UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Match time is set for 3 p.m. at Leavey Pool.
