Santa Clara Defeats Cal State Monterey Bay At Malley Pool

March 17, 2007

The Broncos celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style with an undefeated day in the Malley Pool. After a win against Sonoma State earlier in the afternoon, Santa Clara defeated Cal State Monterey Bay for the second time this season, 17-7. Andrea Evans led the Broncos with four goals and both Katie Radvanyi and Amy Lamb posted hat tricks in the second game of the day.

Cal State Monterey Bay came out and scored immediately in the first quarter. After two attempted shots, Claire Linney finally drilled a goal into the back of the net for the Broncos. Brianna Anderson scored another goal in the first quarter to even the score to 2-2. Amy Lamb, Radvanyi, and Evans all scored in the second quarter, helping the Broncos take the lead at halftime with a score of 5-2.

Santa Clara came out even stronger offensively in the second half of the game. In the third quarter, Radvanyi scored two goals and Amy Lamb, Linney, and Kendra Betke each added one more. To end the game, Evans and Kaylie Pezzuto each scored twice, followed by goals from Amy Lamb, Keely Baldwin, and Kellie Dunn.

Defensively, the Broncos continued to play hard. Elizabeth Perry contributed to the strong defensive play with four steals. Kristin Barnes was tough in the goal with seven blocks, while Katie Gilmartin had two blocks.

The Broncos return to the Malley Pool on March 23, for a game against Princeton. The game will be at 6:00 p.m.
