Santa Clara Tops Cal State East Bay 14-2

March 3, 2006

Hayward, Calif. - In preparation for tomorrow's big match against UC Davis, the Santa Clara women's water polo team played four strong quarters en route to a dominating 14-2 victory over host Cal State East Bay this afternoon. Ten players found their way into the scoring column, led by Bryn Asher who found the back of the net three times.

"We came out strong like we needed to. It's a great game to have under our belts heading into tomorrow's game with UC Davis. The UC Davis game is really big for our team and we're looking forward to it," stated head coach Keith Wilbur.

Along with the scoring prowess of Asher, Lindsey Bacolini and Brianna Anderson added two goals each. Emily Bonk, Andrea Evans, Claire Linney, Danielle Mansfield, Christie Miller, Katie Radvanyi, and Alanna Simpkins chipped in a goal apiece in the winning effort. Bacolini had an excellent all-around game, with an assist and a steal to go along with drawing two kickouts. On defense, the Broncos rotated four goalies in each quarter, as Kristin Barnes, Sara Barrantes, Randahl Capurro, and Katie Gilmartin combined for eight blocks.

Santa Clara improves its record to 9-4 on the year and will return to the pool tomorrow in a key Western Water Polo Association match against No. 14 UC Davis. Game time is set for noon.
