Initially thinking she would be a basketball player for Santa Clara University (SCU), Julia Peters has become a paramount player on the Bronco's women's water polo team. Peters began swimming a young age, and started playing competitive water polo when she turned eight.

Five Broncos Named All-Conference in Women's Water Polo
Five Santa Clara women's water polo players have been selected by conference coaches to the All-Conference WWPA team named on Monday. Freshman Julia Peters (San Jose, Calif./ Presentation) was one of two freshmen to make First-Team WWPA All-Conference, while seniors Stephanie Clements (San Carlos, Calif./ Sacred Heart Prep) and Alison Norris (Saratoga, Calif./ Saratoga) and junior Claire Eadington (Corona Del Mar, Calif./ Corona Del Mar) were named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Elizabeth Anderson (Palo Alto, Calif., Gunn) was named to the WWPA All-Freshman Team.

Led by 16 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and four teams who achieved a 3.4 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.037 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2013 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 18th time in 19 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.089.

Bronco volleyball players come to Santa Clara to play the sport they love, attend classes on the Mission campus and bond with their teammates on and off with the court on a daily basis. Sometimes the bonding goes to a whole another level. Graduating senior Tanya Schmidt and rising junior Megan Anders bonded as they climbed the 5,000 foot Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on the Monday after Santa Clara's graduation, June 18.

Continuing its hard work in the classroom, Santa Clara’s women’s rowing, women’s track and women’s water polo teams were all recognized by the NCAA on Thursday as recipients of the organization's Public Recognition Awards for academic achievement. The NCAA released the APR recognition by highlighting teams that demonstrated a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR scores within their respective sports. Specifically, these three teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

Caitlin Espe Prepares for Senior Season
Espe, a senior utility player from Los Gatos, Calif., racked up 24 goals, 30 assists, 36 steals and drew 20 ejections for the Broncos. After transferring from West Valley College in the fall of 2009, Espe proved to be one of the Broncos best all-around players.
