SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team was unable to overcome an early 3-0 deficit, falling to No. 16 Indiana 9-3 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. With the loss the Broncos are now 7-9 on the season, but went 3-1 over the weekend and improved 5-2 within conference play.

Laura Espinosa
capped a great weekend by drawing six ejections out of two meters. Claire Eadington, Taylor Harkins and Makena Pezzuto each added a goal while Marina Allen tallied three steals. Wren White made six saves in the cage.

"Indiana played a real physical game, and we have to work harder as a team in all phases to play at that level," said SCU Head Coach Keith Wilbur. "I felt we did it yesterday against UOP, but we need to learn how to do it consistently to reach our full potential."

Indiana jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Eadington got the Broncos on the board in the second quarter with an outside shot, but the Hoosiers would respond with two counter-attack goals to take a 5-1 lead at the half.

In the third quarter the Broncos gave themselves a chance, earning four-man advantages but were unable to convert. Indiana found the back of the net twice, and pushed their lead to 7-1 entering the fourth.

Harkins found the back of the net on an outside shot, and Pezzuto finished on a shot off a foul to cut the Hoosiers lead to five. However, Indiana's Koli scored on a six on five advantage to ice the game for the Hoosiers.
