MONTEREY, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team beat Cal State Monterey Bay 13-8 Saturday morning on the road, opening its 2011 Western Water Polo Associaton (WWPA) schedule with a win.
"It was a tight first half, tied at four," said ninth-year SCU head coach Keith Wilbur, who has never lost to Monterey Bay. "We really pushed our counter-attack in the second half and built up our lead, then finished strong."
Senior Taylor Harkins and freshman Claire Eadington each had four goals and goal keeper Wren White had nine blocks. Caitlin Espe added three goals for the Broncos, who are now 2-4 on the year after turning around and knocking off Fresno Pacific 13-8 in the afternoon session.
"We played good defense throughout the day," said Wilbur after the two wins. "In our second game the bench gave us some good contributions and played well."
