6 Women's Water Polo Players earn ACWPC All-Academic Accolades
Six Santa Clara women's water polo players were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic teams for their achievements during the 2010 season; and the women's team was also ranked No. 10 nationally with a 3.228 cumulative GPA.
Named to the Superior list was freshman Alison Norris, senior Meg Zimmerman, sophomore Sarah Safir, senior Rochelle Stowe and junior Jade Look. The All-Academic awards are divided into three categories, Outstanding (4.00-3.71 GPA), Superior (3.70-3.41 GPA) and Excellent (3.40-3.20 GPA). The Broncos placed five on the Superior list, and one on the Excellent.
Alison Norris had a great start to her Bronco career, scoring 21 goals on the season while tallying 15 assists and 15 steals. Norris was named to the WWPA All-Conference Freshman Team.
Meg Zimmerman registered 35 goals as the starting two meter player, and led the team in ejections earned with 58. She was also named was named honorable mention WWPA All-Conference and finishes her Santa Clara career as the Bronco's all time leader in earned ejections.
Coming off the bench, Sarah Safir netted 12 goals on the year and assisted 19 goals.
Rochelle Stowe closed out her Bronco career by posting a career high 34 goals as a senior. Starting every game, Stowe registered 22 steals while playing two meter defense for the Broncos.
Jade Look also made contributions off the bench scoring 4 goals while playing stellar defense. She finished the season with 12 steals.
Jennifer Knutson was named to the Excellent list. The senior started every game for the Broncos while being named to the WWPA All Conference First Team. Knutson scored 46 goals on the season and led the Broncos in assists finishing with 58. Her 58 assits were a single-season record for Santa Clara.
