The Santa Clara women's water polo team put two wins in the books today, defeating Concordia, 11-9, and California Baptist, 10-9, today at the Arizona State Invitational Tournament.
The Broncos found themselves down 8-6 heading into the final quarter, but willed their way to victory by outscoring the Eagles, 5-1, in the final eight minutes.
Senior Rochelle Stowe scored three goals, while her classmates Meg Zimmerman and Jenny Knutson scored two each. Juniors Caitlin Espe and Whitney Allen each had a goal as well. Zimmerman was credited with the winning goal with just over two minutes to play. Junior goalie Wren White made four saves.
Against Cal Baptist, the third quarter turned out to be the difference for Santa Clara. After falling behind, 4-3, at half, the Broncos scored four goals to the Lancers' two in the third to take a one-goal lead they would hang on to through the rest of the game.
Knutson had four assists against CBU while Espe had two. Whitney Allen, Zimmerman, Knutson, and Stowe all had two kickouts drawn. White combined two steals and an assist with her 11 saves.
Santa Clara, now 12-9, takes on No. 6 Arizona State at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
