LOS ANGELES - The Santa Clara women's water polo team ended their run at the WWPA Championship with a 5-4 defeat by top-seeded UC Davis. Amy Lamb notched her eight hat trick of the year and sister Allie Lamb scored the other goal for the Broncos.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead early on from an Amy Lamb goal, but the Aggies scored the next two to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the quarter. Santa Clara answered with two straight of their own to bring the score to 3-2. UC Davis answered again, and with the score tied at 4-4, scored with three minutes to go in the game. Santa Clara got one last chance with a 6-on-5 with a minute and a half to play, but were unable to capitalize.
Randahl Capurro had another fantastic game in goal for Santa Clara, blocking 14 shots and allowing just five goals.
The Broncos will play for third place tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against San Diego.
