Santa Clara, Calif.-- The Santa Clara women's water polo team lost to No. 3 Stanford this afternoon 16-6. Brianna Anderson led the No. 19 Broncos with two goals and two assists on the day.
The Lamb sisters, Amy Lamb and Allie Lamb, scored one goal apiece, along with Claire Linney and Taylor Harkins. Meg Zimmerman supplied an assist and three kickouts drawn while Christie Miller chipped in with two kickouts drawn and a 5-meter penalty drawn.
Randahl Capurro blocked seven shots and had a steal in three quarters of play, while Wren Wright took over in the fourth quarter and blocked two shots with an assist.
"It was a tough game," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Stanford is a very good team. We played better than last year, but we have a lot more improving to do."
Wilbur mentioned that the team had improved in areas such as their counterattacks on defense and handling pressure on the offense.
"Hopefully this will help us get ready for San Diego, where we're playing some very good teams."
The Broncos resume their season at the Triton Tournament in San Diego next Saturday.
