SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team improved their record to 4-1 on Saturday, February 3 with wins over conference opponents UC Santa Cruz and Sonoma State. The Broncos were led by sophomore Brianna Anderson and Katie Radvanyi, who had a monster days. Anderson finished with four goals and eight steals, including a hat-trick and five steals against Sonoma State, while Radvanyi had five goals, three kickouts and a 5M drawn on the day, including a hat-trick against UC Santa Cruz.
In the morning contest against UC Santa Cruz which began at 9:00 a.m., the Broncos mounted a very balanced attack as they cruised to a 16-6 victory over their rival Bananaslugs. Senior Katie Radvanyi and freshman Meg Zimmerman each turned hat-tricks. The Lamb sisters combined for three goals of their own (Amy 2, Allie 1), and Rochelle Stowe, Elizabeth Perry, Claire Linney, Christie Miller, Brianna Anderson, Kaylie Pezzuto and Keely Baldwin each added goals. In addition, Radvanyi had two kickouts drawn. Anderson had three steals and Miller had four of her own.
At noon against Sonoma State, Anderson really came out strong as the Broncos put up their second convincing victory of the day, 15-7 over the Seawolves. Anderson posted her first hat-trick of the season and added a whopping five steals in the victory. Radvanyi added two goals and had a kickout and a 5M penalty shot drawn. The Lamb sisters each found net twice, and the Broncos also saw Kellie Dunn and Mele Rehder score their first goals of the season. Zimmerman, Linney, Miller and Perry each added goals, while Perry also drew a kickout and a 5M penalty.
