DAVIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team posted a pair of wins in the second day of action at the 25th Annual Davis Shootout in Davis, Calif. The Broncos opened the day with a 10-8 win over Cal State San Bernardino before recording an 11-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. SCU improves to 15-12 after Sunday's wins.
In the morning match, the Broncos took a 7-2 lead into halftime and held on for the 10-8 victory. Senior co-captain Catherine Flynn led the Broncos with four goals, including a four-meter penalty shot in the first quarter. Kathleen Hamm joined Flynn in multiple goals with two in the match. Katie Radvanyi, Christie Miller, Andrea Evans and Lindsey Bacolini all found the back of the net for SCU. Defensively, Miller led the Broncos with four steals.
In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Barnes continued her strong play with five blocks.
The second match of the day saw the Broncos post their fourth win of the season over first-year program Cal State Monterey Bay. Once again, SCU played a dominating first half with a 7-0 lead at the break.
Danielle Mansfield led SCU with a hat trick against the Otters. Bryn Asher and Kaylie Pezzuto both scored two goals apiece, while Flynn, Bacolini, Miller and Erin Scollin each added a score. Miller continued to display her stellar defense with four steals in the second game as well.
The Broncos will play in their second straight tournament next weekend when they head to Long Beach, Calif. Play begins for SCU on Saturday, April 16 with an 8 a.m. meeting with Cal Baptist.
